Advising Plan Request

Use the form below to submit a request to have an advising plan created with upcoming semester course recommendations and alternative options. An academic advisor will review your submitted request form and create a proposed plan for you in the Degree Works Plans system. Once the plan has been completed, you will be notified through your TXST email. Created plans are the same type of advising notes received during a 30-minute Zoom advising appointment.

About Created Plans

Advising plans are designed to help you decide on which courses to register for in an upcoming semester. Advisors will prioritize recommending prerequisite courses to ensure you remain on track with degree program progression but will also try to best accommodate any preferences listed in your request.


Please review the following guidelines before submission:

  • You must be a currently enrolled/continuing student with a declared major in McCoy College. Requests from students not pursuing a major in McCoy College will be automatically deleted.
  • If you need to make any curriculum changes (change major, concentration, minor, etc.), please call 512.245.1993 before submitting your request for instructions on how to properly submit form with curriculum change information.
  • Academic advisors do not have access to your financial aid/scholarship records and will not know the GPA, credit hour, etc. requirements of your aid package. Please be sure you request an amount of credit hours sufficient to meet both your academic and financial aid/scholarship requirements. 
  • An advisor may request that you set up an advising appointment (conducted online through Zoom) instead of creating an online plan if it seems your circumstances would be better served through a one-on-one appointment.
  • Please allow 7-10 business days after submitting your request to receive a completed plan. 
    • We recommend you request a plan well in advance of your registration access time. If you have not received your plan by the time of your registration begins, do not wait to register. Instead, use your degree audit and the university catalog to try and pick classes, then you can compare it with your suggested advising plan and contact our center if you have any questions.

IMPORTANT: Due to the high volume of requests received during peak registration planning, please be aware processing times may be delayed. Plans submitted any time after 5pm on March 22, 2024 are not guaranteed to be completed before registration begins on April 1, 2024.

Please Note: Advisors DO NOT select/recommend courses based on specific course sections/times/delivery format (i.e., online/hybrid/in-person). Advisors will only provide course recommendations based on remaining degree program requirements and prerequisites. It is your responsibility to build a schedule of selected courses based on your personal preferences regarding times and course formats.
