Resources for Finding Transferable Courses
- Use the Transfer Course Equivalency Guide to verify the course(s) you take off-campus will transfer as a direct equivalent back to Texas State
- Important Note: If the course you are interested in taking is not featured on the equivalency guide, this may indicate it is not transferable. If this is the case, we recommend contacting our advising center to verify transferability (512.245.1993 or businessadvising@txstate.edu)
- For General Education Core Curriculum Courses: If you cannot find a direct equivalent course to one at Texas State, you can also use the Core Curriculum Web Center to confirm the course you take is core coded for the requirement you are planning to complete (i.e. Life Sciences - Core Code 030, Creative Arts - Core Coded 050, English Literature - Core Code 090/094)
- For Free Electives: Free electives are any for-credit and non-developmental college-level courses of any subject of your choosing for which you meet prerequisites and have not yet taken. Total number of needed free elective hours will vary by student. Be sure to confirm with an advisor needed hours of free elective (if any) before taking additional coursework.
Taking a Prerequisite Course Off-Campus?
If you will be taking a course off-campus that is a prerequisite for a TXST course you plan to take in an upcoming semester, you will need to request a prerequisite override to register for the TXST course.
- How to Request an Override: Use the appropriate Department Special Request form to submit a request for a prerequisite override to the department overseeing the course you are trying to register for. You will need to provide proof of enrollment and/or final grade in your off-campus prerequisite course. Be sure to monitor your email for correspondence from the department regarding deadlines for granted overrides.
To have your transfer credit posted to your TXST record, you must have an official transcript from your off-campus institution delivered electronically, by mail, or in-person to the TXST Undergraduate Admissions Office. For questions about sending transcripts or processing times for posting credit, please contact the TXST Undergraduate Admissions Office at 512.245.2364 or admissions@txstate.edu.
